About Us

Learn about LYF-Uganda — who we are, what we stand for, and how we serve youth across Uganda.

From a local youth group to a registered NGO

Luteete Youth Foundation Uganda (LYF-Uganda) began its operations in 2023 as an informal group and became registered in 2024. It was started by a group of five like-minded youth with experiences in different sectors to promote youth capacity development and create opportunities for children, youth and people with disabilities.

LYF-Uganda is involved in youth professionalism, youth development, capacity building, health, education, research, environment and climate change, women empowerment, and social and economic advancement. The organisation has three full-time volunteers who assist in the day-to-day running of its programmes.

It was incorporated in 2024 at the Registrar of Companies and later registered as an NGO under the 2012 NGO Statute — Registration No: INDR171956710NB.

From Esuubi-Elidako to LYF-Uganda

The organisation began as a Next-hope initiative locally known as Esuubi-Elidako, recognised by local council leaders for its tireless efforts to uplift the welfare of youth. Its first emphasis was on zonal and sub-county based activities across the community.

Early programmes included early childhood education, advocating for children's rights, education sponsorship, smart agriculture, vocational training in hair dressing & cosmetology, welding & fabrication, brick laying, poultry keeping, games and sports, piggery, apiary, carpentry and joinery for local youth.

Due to the growing desire to assist youth in other divisions, sub-divisions, counties and districts, LYF-Uganda was registered as an NGO in 2025 — coupled with a need to secure external donor assistance and expand our activities reach.

Principal objectives

The principal objectives of LYF-Uganda are organised around six pillars of community impact.

Basic Needs & Community Empowerment

  • Reach out to the needy and poor by providing basic needs such as food, clothes, education, medical care and shelter.
  • Empower youth through income-generating projects in social-cultural, developmental and environmental fields, peace and conflict resolution, and community development activities.
  • Improve the social economic welfare of youth through education for disadvantaged children, vocational skills training, adult education and income generating activities through savings and credit.

Children's Rights & Education

  • Promote and fight for children's rights by working with organisations that love and support children in advocating for their rights.
  • Provide education opportunities to orphans, needy children, destitute children and children from financially unstable families through full and half bursaries.
  • Establish children's homes where every child without parents can access services like other children with parents.

Disability Inclusion

  • Advocate on behalf of people with disability, particularly where their rights have been infringed.
  • Develop education programmes and support services for people with disability to ensure equality of opportunity within the community.
  • Promote proper representation of children, youth and people with disabilities on bodies that make decisions affecting their lives.
  • Organise social rehabilitation services and camps for people who have recently become disabled due to spinal cord injury, brain injury or other illnesses.

Health & Psychosocial Support

  • Sensitize and educate communities on programmes aimed at reducing infections and general impacts of HIV/AIDS.
  • Provide psychosocial support to youth in conflict situations and vulnerable children.
  • Address health problems among youth with emphasis on adolescent sexual reproductive health (ASRH).

Youth Skills & Self-Reliance

  • Provide capacity and relevant vocational skills training for youth self-reliance.
  • Deliver information to youth through training of trainers, IEC publications, peer counselor training, and counseling and guidance.

Environment & Climate Action

  • Engage youth in environmental protection activities such as tree planting, proper garbage disposal, agro forestry and sustainable agriculture.
  • Organise and empower youth to take climate change and smart agriculture seriously within communities.
